“Why Can’t I Just Get This Done?”
You know what needs to happen.
You may even know exactly how to do it.
And somehow it still doesn’t happen.
Tasks pile up.
Appointments get forgotten.
Projects get started but not finished.
Important things become urgent things.
You procrastinate until the pressure becomes unbearable—and then somehow accomplish three hours of work in 45 minutes.
Afterward you promise yourself:
“Next time I’ll start earlier.”
Then next time arrives.
Beyond Organization
ADHD can affect attention, organization, impulsivity, time management, emotional regulation, follow-through, relationships, and confidence.
CBT can help identify unhelpful beliefs and develop more effective behavioral strategies.
ACT can also be useful when years of frustration have created stories such as:
“I’m lazy.”
“I never finish anything.”
“I’m a failure.”
A thought can feel very convincing without becoming your identity.
The goal isn’t perfect organization.
It’s developing strategies—and a relationship with yourself—that make everyday life require less unnecessary effort.
