You Don’t Have to Be Falling Apart to Talk to Someone
A lot of men learned some version of the same rules:
Handle it.
Don’t complain.
Stay in control.
Figure it out yourself.
Don’t let anyone see you struggle.
Those rules can be useful.
They can also become limiting when handling it starts meaning never dealing honestly with anything.
Men come to counseling for many reasons:
Relationships.
Divorce.
Anger.
Work.
Sex.
Fatherhood.
Retirement.
Confidence.
Loneliness.
Purpose.
Anxiety.
Depression.
Grief.
Aging.
Or simply realizing:
“The way I’ve always dealt with things isn’t working anymore.”
Counseling doesn’t require you to become someone you’re not.
We can look directly at the problem.
We can challenge thoughts that aren’t helping.
We can also identify which uncomfortable experiences you may need to become more willing to have in order to be the husband, father, friend, professional, or man you actually want to be.
Sometimes strength means pushing through.
Sometimes it means changing direction.
Sometimes it means being willing to stay in a difficult conversation instead of escaping it.
